It's been a fabulous week celebrating the arts at Lindbergh! Check out our Instragram links and news report where you can see our students immersed in the arts. Our Mission: To enrich the lives of ALL students at Lindbergh Elementary School through creating opportunities to experience hands-on interactions with professional artists. The programming offered to students balances mind, body, and whole-self learning opportunities within the arts. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Five Wings Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund and with funds raised by our students and community through the Flyer Color 5K. Meet the Artists! check out the links at the bottom of the page to see our students and artists in action! The WonderWeavers, Tina Rhode and Colleen Shaskin http://wonderweavers.com/ Storytellers Tina Rhode and Colleen Shaskin work with kindergartners to explore how we can tell stories to express ourselves. Iris Shiraishi and Taiko make an impact. So much so that many of Lindbergh's 5th graders have been looking forward to Taiko since Kindergarten! they learn to warm up, focus their energy, create a strong base, all along with learning the parts of the drum and it's historical significance. Culminating in putting all the phrases together and performing an entire song.
Dan Mondloch demonstrated watercolor painting techniques and encouraged students to experiment while creating their own watercolor paintings. Lindbergh 4th graders were able to learn new skills to build on and enrich their current knowledge of watercolor paint and painting.
3rd graders spent the week with Jill Moore learning the sun salutation, to appreciate and love their bodies, poses based on stories about the "Rabbit in the Moon", "Sheila the Brave", "Diamonds, Rubys, and Pearls", and ended each day with mindful yoga dessert.
2nd graders take Emileah Most's lead as they immerse themselves in dance! Practicing ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and modern while working on a choreography piece that brings them all together on day 5.
Aimee Miron, GREAT Theater, teaches our 1st graders that theater is more than just acting. They spend the week working individually and in groups on directing, body movement, vocalizing, costume and set design, and storytelling through theater.
WonderWeavers Tina and Colleen spend the week telling, creating, acting, and building stories with Kindergarten. The students learn about using words, body language, voice, and facial expression to add to their own storytelling. We created our own story sticks to share with family and friends and storybooks full of characters, settings, problems, and resolutions. Many laughs, stories, and new experiences were shared over the week.

When I tell people about Lindbergh’s Arts Alive! Program their first comment is unanimously "That is amazing, what an incredible opportunity". Then the dreaded questions begin “How much does it cost?”, “Where does the money come from?, or “Wouldn’t you rather do (blank) with that money”. It’s heartbreaking and yet gives me the opportunity to show my passion and excitement for, what has become, the most soul feeding week of my year.
"How much does it cost?"
"Wouldn’t you rather do (blank) with that money?"
If Arts Alive! is anything it is a work of love, with all of it's ups and downs, and with that I will leave you with the words of the divine Miss M: "You've got to give a little, take a little, and let your poor heart break a little. That's the story of, that's the glory of love." |
